More than 220 people gathered in the grounds of Manor Gardens care home at Temple Grove, Herons Ghyll, between Crowborough and Uckfield, for a summer party last week.
Guests included family and friends of the home’s 64 residents with staff and their families invited too.
There was entertainment for all with Dave Collins providing the music and children having their own tent of toys to play with.
Housekeepers Nok Baxter and Caroline Pickthall made the bunting that fluttered around the gardens and the three gazebos and Shaz Ahad made sweet parcels to put on the tables.
Chef Gloria Satterfield made jams and chutneys for the event and created canapés - including ham and gravadlax, tempura prawns, honey-glazed sausages, vol au vents and pastries – to offer with Pimms as guests arrived.
A barbecue followed with lamb steaks served with mint and yoghurt, tandori chicken, sausages, burgers, Cajun salmon and salads.
Desserts included fresh strawberries and a selection of cakes made by Diane Hills and Lois Dadswell, the daughter and daughter-in-law of one of the residents.
Joanne Ellison, one of the owners of Manor Gardens, said it was “an amazing day”. She was particularly pleased that staff brought along their families and friends to join families and friends of residents.
She added: “This highlights what our home is all about – we welcome everybody. A lot of hard work from a lot of people went into organising the event but it was worth it.”
Suppliers contributed to the party fare including Gunne Butchers at Bexhill, Fresh Direct and Gate Court Food.
Manor Gardens administrator Jean Mann said businesses were very generous offering raffle prizes too.
She used to work at the headquarters of Boots the Chemist in Nottingham and they donated £1,000 worth of toiletries; the East Sussex National Golf Hotel and Spa donated two seven day passes for the spa and gym; Barnsgate Manor offered lunch for two and there were vouchers too from Eurostat Office Supplies, Mid Sussex Timber, Anita’s Hair Salon at Manor Gardens and from a car valet company.
